This song was originally written in 1980 with different lyrivs and titles "The Only One". It was about a girl named Lana who would dance on the beaches of the south shore of Long Island wearing a grass skirt. Inspired by the music of Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, I penned this to be pure reggae and recorded several demos with the band Europa. The recordings were not commercially released. Years later while playing with CA3, on the Nautical Mile in Freeport NY, I got inspired to re-write it with the current lyrics and title, after a drummer who was sitting in with the band asked if we did any reggae. We didn't. A very substandard version was released as part of CA3's 2004 album releas Telepathetic. This is the 2025 rendition and it's a very different approach and probably as much ska as reggae.
Lyrics:
You thought you had it all figured out
now everything is just a mess
You suffer for mistakes that were made
too late to second guess
(pre-chorus)
you're searching for a reason
don’t let it shake your confidence
you gotta keep believing
someday it all will make sense.
(chorus)
And nothing ever stays the same
it’s all just a part of the game
and you’re just a slave
to the winds of change.
So now you’re on top of the world and everything is going your way.
You really got it all going on you always got something to say
(pre-chorus)
you think that you’re a winner
but don’t you be too sure of yourself
you’re just another sinner just like everyone else
(chorus)
and nothing ever stays the same.
It’s all part of the game
and you're still a slave
to the winds of change
(instrumental)
(pre-chorus)
you think that you’re a winner
but don’t you be too sure of yourself
you’re just another sinner
just like everyone else
(chorus)
and nothing ever stays the same.
It’s all part of the game
and you're still a slave to
the winds of change
